“Listen to the savoury brilliance of Lecce’s Concerto in G major (and its magnificent central Largo, so archaic in spirit), the ironic skullduggery of the E flat major arbitrarily attributed to Paisiello, or Hummel’s mischevious dimension (how can one resist his Andante with variations?).”

Reviews
“Fagioli is best in bravura displays…His voice is also capable of touching tenderness…The orchestral playing is supportive, and sometimes delicately and effectively alert.”
BBC Music Magazine, August 2020
“Il Pomo d’Oro’s crisp playing, directed by violinist Zefira Valova, is a vivacious foil to Fagioli’s powerful coloratura…More complete Vinci opera recordings of this high calibre are needed.”
Gramophone Magazine, August 2020
“What a treat it is to have an entire album dedicated to this inventive, prolific Neapolitan. The album’s unusually light on bravura for a Fagioli project, showcasing instead Vinci’s gift for long-lined melody and pastoral word-painting, with Medo’s Sento due fiamme a particular highlight, and some ravishing obbligatos from Il Pomo d’Oro’s winds.”

Bach Harpsichord Concertos
Il Pomo d’Oro | Francesco Corti
Bach Harpsichord Concertos BWV 1052, 1053, 1055 & 1058
Reviews
“His playing is a powerhouse of unbridled vivacity, exciting and excitable in equal measure…BWV 1052 is the bullish bruiser of the set, and Corti isn’t the only one spraying testosterone in all directions/ His colleagues wield a dashing cut and thrust all of their own…Bach’s harpsichord concertos boast a distinguished discography, but Corti finds fresh things to say. Roll on Vol. 2.”
BBC Music Magazine, July 2020
“…the fast tempi, rhythmic drive and explosive accents result in performances that are exhilarating. But Corti finds the time for expressive cadenzas, and the middle movements are beautifully controlled.”
Choir & Organ, July 2020
“Orchestral sound and balance are perennial problems with these pieces, however, and it has to be said that Pentatone’s recording has got it pretty much right…The performances, too, are fleet, crisp and buoyant; Corti brings the right mix of spontaneity and control to his playing, and his ornamentation, plentiful if not always beautiful, adds much to the music’s high spirits. Meanwhile Il Pomo d’Oro shape their accompaniments with pleasing detail and sensitivity.”
Gramophone Magazine, July 2020
“Hay un buen punado de registros de estas obras (conciertos para clave de Bach) que pueden considerarse referencias. Desde este momento Il Pomo d’Oro y Francesco Corti ocupan por derecho propio un sitio de honor en él.”

“He breezes through the salvo of technical challenges…Yet he also brings a refined musicality and a sense of period style to these concertos, so alongside the fireworks there’s playing of exquisite delicacy and tenderness…Il Pomo d’Oro is proving to be one of the most brilliant ensembles on the early music stage today, and the players respond to Sinkovsky’s direction with blazing energy. It’s only February, but this could well end up being my disc of the year.”

Reviews
“Emőke Baráth is a feisty Doriclea and nowhere more so than in her encounter with Xavier Sabata’s Fidalbo in Act II. But it’s Gabriella Martellaci’s rich contralto as the worldly-wise Delfina that lingers on the ear, and the magnificent music-making from Il Pomo d’Oro.”
BBC Music Magazine, March 2019
“A multitude of little short arias and duets are performed with zesty vibrancy by Il Pomo d’Oro…Emke Baráth’s Doriclea and Giuseppina Bridelli’s Lucinda are both crystalline and sensual. The steadfast Celindo’s laments in response to Lucinda’s unwarranted scorn are sung dulcetly by Luca Cervoni.”
Gramophone Magazine, March 2019
“The standouts are unquestionably Emőke Barath’s beautifully sung and articulated Doriclea, a superbly rounded assumption of the part, and the bass Riccardo Novaro’s magnificent and richly comic portrayal of the servant Giraldo…Andre De Carlo’s direction of the small ensemble drawn from Il Pomo d’Oro is exemplary.”

All the speeds here just feel right: unhurried, but equally brimming with energy and flow. What really makes this recording one to treasure, though, is the degree of uncontrived personality and artistry on display…Another point I can’t shout loudly enough about is the exceptional blending…Have I sold it enough? I hope so. Because really, this is properly heavenly.

Reviews
“Arias from each role might as well have been tailor-made for Hallenberg’s pinpoint virtuosity and lyricism, communicative use of language, idiomatic embellishment, intelligently sculpted phrasing (limpid, gentle or turbulent as the music demands) and astute theatrical characterisation.”
Gramophone, Awards Issue 2017
“[Hallenberg] yes, the evenly produced control across the whole range is there; yes, the the technique to sing demanding passaggi is present and so is the mastery and intelligent application of ornamentation, including trills.”
Opera, October 2017
“Her range, with astonishing evenness of tone and voluptuous colouring, extends from contralto to soprano, and her sublime artistry keeps the attention…Her technical bravura leaves one almost breathless…Hallenberg’s alchemy turns this accomplished music to 24-carat gold.”
Sunday Times, 2nd July 2017
